Sardius, now known as Carnelian was the first stone in the ephod, assigned to Reuben, the firstborn of the twelve tribes of Israel. Known in Hebrew as אֹדֶם (Odem), this fiery red stone speaks of strength, transition, and life emerging through divine order.

Sardius appears not only at the beginning of Israel’s story but also in the heavenly vision of Revelation, where it describes the appearance of the One seated on the throne and forms part of the eternal foundations of the New Jerusalem.
